Falling Slowly as part of The Spiral Season

Posted in Falling Slowly on February 3, 2010 by eoinohannrachain

The first play in our upcoming Spiral Season in The Granary Studio will be our very own Falling Slowly. As usual Falling Slowly will be directed by Eoin Ó hAnnracháin, who also assumes the writing responsibilities for the very first time.

Based on a story by Clinic founders Eoin Ó hAnnracháin and David O’Byrne, Falling Slowly has gone through a lengthy process of development including a rehearsed reading back in 2008. Exactly 2 years to the date Falling Slowly will be taking on a more complete production – well, within the confines and challenges of The Spiral Season – in the very same space in The Granary Theatre.

Falling Slowly and the week of Valentine’s day have become linked by the fates it seems, and with very good reason!

Mark (Seán McNally) is a regular guy. He doesn’t like complications and thinks he’s better off without them. That is until he meets Karen (Mary-Louise Mc Carthy) and realises the appeal of a complicated life.

There are further surprises in store for Mark when an old friend (Timothy O’Mahony) turns his life upside down. In this struggle with love, even the seemingly perfect relationship shared by Daniel (Mark Cosgrave) and Emma (Marie O’Donovan) is tested.

Can they all figure out how to make love work, or are they simply Falling Slowly.

Clinic Media present The Spiral Season in the Granary Studio

Posted in The Spiral Season on February 3, 2010 by eoinohannrachain

Clinic Media, in association with The Granary Theatre, will present a season of plays called The Spiral Season in the Studio space throughout February, March and April.

Granary Artistic director Tony McCleane-Fay says;

The Granary has teamed up with local production company, Clinic Media, to bring you The Spiral Season. Spiral is all about contemporary work, about a re-imagining of older work and about focusing on the text and the performance. Plays are stripped of their settings and props, the emphasis here is on the words, the characters and the plot. The Granary Studio is a place where new work is made on an almost daily basis through rehearsals, readings, workshops and taught drama programmes. The Studio as a venue presents challenges for a director, no theatrical lighting, drapes or platforms, limited seating and white walls. Spiral is about innovation and creativity, transforming a white box into the intimate world of the play. No smoke or mirrors. Grotowski stated that ‘spectacle’ was taking us away from the most important part of theatre, the immediacy between the actor and the audience. Spiral reinstates the immediacy.

The plays in the season are as follows;
