As part of this development we are inviting participants to join us on the morning of Tuesday the 6th of December from 10AM-1PM, to participate in a free workshop with director Eoin O hAnnrachain and actor Mary-Lou Mc Carthy. This workshop will focus on character development through exercises and improvisation techniques.

During our first week’s development in July we used character development techniques from Michael Chekhov, Paul Elsam and improvisational techniques from Ken Adams. These were used to create the characters and scenarios we presented in our first showing. You can watch a video of that showing on YouTube or Vimeo.

In the workshop we will share the techniques we used, and use the time to further expand the world of our play, Life in the Venue.

Eoin Ó hAnnracháin is the artistic director of Cork based theatre and film company Clinic Media and a freelance director. Recent credits include A Serving of Pinter at the Half Moon Theatre; Howie The Rookie as part of the Granary New Director’s Festival and Imagine Arts Festival, Waterford; Vandal for Waterford Youth Arts; and Falling Slowly as part of The Spiral Season. He also directed the short-film Breakfast by Jody O’Neill.

Mary-Lou Mc Carthy works predominantly as an actor in theatre, film and television. Recent theatre credits include: Brokentalkers The Blue Boy as part of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival 2011; An Triail for Aisling Gear theatre company (dir. Bairbre Ni Chaoimh) and Vandal (WYT). Mary-Lou also appeared in Aifric, Cinneadh and Corp agus Anam on TG4 and award winning short-film Penny for Southernman Films.

Life in the Venue is being developed with actors George Hanover and Shane Falvey and has been made possible by the kind support of the Cork City Council Arts Office and the Theatre Development Centre.

I’ve been watching Ruth’s career ever since she was in Adam Mcelderry’s production of The Country by Martin Crimp back in the New Director’s Festival in 2007. It was in the same New Director’s festival as our own production of Howie The Rookie. I am delighted to finally get the oportunity to work with Ruth. As well as returning to work with Nicholas Kavanagh [who starred in Howie The Rookie] it is great to round off our senior cast members with two Cork actors, Frank Jackson and Ruth Hayes.

Clinic Media today announced that they will be undertaking a co-production with MooCow Theatre in the Cork Opera House’s Half Moon Theatre, and in The Forum, Waterford.

A Serving of PINTER is a compilation of three of Harold Pinter’s short plays and a cellebration of the writing career, which spanned more than 50 years, of one of the most influential modern dramatists.

Trouble In The Works, a sketch reminiscent of Monty Phython, pits a manager of an industrial factory against an employee representing a dissatisfied workforce. Pinter plays with the leader/follower relationship balance beautifully.

Victoria Station, an acclaimed black comedy, introduces us to the struggles of a minicab controller trying to communicate his instructions to driver 274.

One For The Road is a commentary on the terrors of dictatorship. The sadistic Nicolas interviews the members of a family one by one. Pinter’s ambiguous sense of menace is in full swing.

Director, Eoin Ó hAnnracháin said;

“Harold Pinter has always been one of the writers I have wanted to direct. In my work I am drawn to subtext and enjoy working with actors in the rehearsal room on what goes unspoken.

It is a very exciting time in Cork. A lot of things have changed very quickly in the last 6-12 months and there is a large emphasis on new work in Theatre. Coming off the back of developing two pieces of new work [Talking Subtext - Solstice 2011, and Life In The Venue] I am excited about the challenge of working on the text of one of the greatest writers of all time. While I am fully in favour of the emerging emphasis on new work I feel it is important that revivals of great writing are not completely overlooked either.”

Clinic Media’s Eoin Ó hAnnracháin and MooCow Theatre’s Nicholas Kavanagh have previously collaborated on projects such as; Howie The Rookie, Vandal, Fantasy Football, Trophy Trouble, and Spell It.

This production will be directed by Clinic’s Artistic Director Eoin Ó hAnnracháin, and will star MooCow’s Nicholas Kavanagh, and Cork actor Frank Jackson. With a fantastic creative team, including designers Deirdre Dwyer (costume), Joe Harney (sound), A Serving of Pinter should not be missed.

Based on a story by Clinic founders Eoin Ó hAnnracháin and David O’Byrne, Falling Slowly has gone through a lengthy process of development including a rehearsed reading back in 2008. Exactly 2 years to the date Falling Slowly will be taking on a more complete production – well, within the confines and challenges of The Spiral Season – in the very same space in The Granary Theatre.

Falling Slowly and the week of Valentine’s day have become linked by the fates it seems, and with very good reason!

Mark (Seán McNally) is a regular guy. He doesn’t like complications and thinks he’s better off without them. That is until he meets Karen (Mary-Louise Mc Carthy) and realises the appeal of a complicated life.

There are further surprises in store for Mark when an old friend (Timothy O’Mahony) turns his life upside down. In this struggle with love, even the seemingly perfect relationship shared by Daniel (Mark Cosgrave) and Emma (Marie O’Donovan) is tested.

Can they all figure out how to make love work, or are they simply Falling Slowly.
